The Tulsa City-County Library serves 24 locations across the city and surrounding areas. The library had recently undergone new branding and was looking forward to a new website to help bring their brand to life online. Their old website was also difficult to use with multiple looped navigation systems that left users traveling in circles. Outdated and disorganized LibGuides by the library staff held a wealth of hard-to-find information.
Digging deep to bring the hidden gems to the top
We began creating a design strategy using large pictures and bold colors that would help tell the library’s story and direct visitors to engaging information. In the course of creating a better design system, we found an opportunity to also highlight the Tulsa City-County Library's unique resource centers. Tulsa has an incredibly rich and complex history, and its library includes African-American, American Indian, Hispanic, and Genealogy Resource Centers.
We made sure each Resource Center had its own page to reflect the richness of the information visitors can find within it. Users can find an array of resource options, with bright, colorful cards and photos. Each Resource Center page also includes a photo of the librarian who manages the section, inviting users to engage directly even if they can't visit the physical Center.
Success Factors
- Mobile-friendly, responsive design and functionality
- A location listing page with a map, photos, and hours for each branch
- Elevated presence for Historical Resource Centers
- Robust search with categorized results
- Accessibility auditing
Better navigation and mobile responsiveness are the ante in for any website we build. But the opportunity to bring their brand to life and transform the way users become more engaged with the library's offerings is at the core of this site's redesign.
