Lexington-Fayette Urban Council Government
The city is celebrating its community’s 250th birthday in 2025 with a streamlined, high-tech website built on extensive community research. The redesigned website now serves as the main online hub for City services, including more intuitive structure for navigation. The site has an adaptive design that is viewable from a desktop or a mobile device, over 100 language options, and follows international guidelines for accessibility. Key features include machine translation, a mobile-friendly events calendar, and a unique “Lex Find” tool that allows users to find services based on their address.
This project was a 2025 dotCOMM Awards Gold Winner in the government category.
Minnesota Department of Public Safety
The Department's 2011 website was overhauled with I.F.'s rich CitizenForward® implementation process. The new website is a firm foundation to keep a diverse array of content relevant, engaging, and responsive to user needs — it’s a critical tool for ensuring public safety. The design considers improved search functionality and optimized content organization that helps users find information more easily and intuitively. A great example of this is the Divisions pages. Divisions have their own color accents, logos, featured events, and news articles, all displayed in a way that doesn’t disrupt the overall branding or site structure. Divisions have “I want to” search bars customized with quick-links to their top-requested services.
50% improvement in user satisfaction within three months after launch.

Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago
Our mission—in addition to building a better, more accessible website—was to tell MWRD’s impressive story. We collaborated extensively with our local minority- and women-owned partners and an in-house design team to dramatically expand community engagement with underserved communities. Our development phase included vastly improved accessibility of district contracting, auto-switching to human-translated content, and innovative searchable document repositories.
10+ Community partner NGOs engaged for project research and collaboration.
This project won Pinnacle and Members Choice for NAGW’s 2024 Pinnacle Awards in the Custom Website Group.
Johnson County, Kansas
Johnson County handpicked I.F. in a competitive bid for their website redesign, hosting, and support. Our Voice of Citizen® research confirmed that residents were their largest user group, but only 55% of them could complete their purpose of visit. Meanwhile, employees—which counted for only 4% of visitors—had a 72% user success rate. Proving that the majority of their visitors were at a disadvantage due to a lack of institutional knowledge helped us align over 45 departments and divisions on a user-centered, responsive design.
8x increase in online payments with “How do I...” menu.
This project won six industry awards for its impact, including the WebAwards 2022 Government Standard of Excellence, GOVX 2022 Overall County Finalist, three NAGW Pinnacle Awards in 2022 (Pinnacle—City/County Large Population Group, Members Choice—City/County Population Group, and Best of Show), and the NAGW Pinnacle Awards 2023 Best in Show.
Wake County, North Carolina
Wake County selected I.F. as its website redesign, hosting, and support partner due to our expertise in building complex government sites and organizing extensive content. Despite an unexpected challenge halfway through our timeline with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, we seamlessly guided Wake’s content team in adapting to remote work routines. Leveraging our expertise, we refined the website’s content to address users’ urgent inquiries and streamline essential processes. The revamped site boasts enhanced flexibility, ensuring scalability for future growth.
11% increase in first-time user success.
This project was the 3rd place winner in the 2021 GOVX Awards—County Category from the Center for Digital Government. It was a finalist for the same award in 2023.
The Washington D.C. Public Library
Our 2017 redesign used data-driven strategies for increasing awareness and usage digital resources. Voice of Patron® data showed that less than half of the library’s patrons were aware of the digital resources and that lower-income areas accessed digital resources at an even lower rate. In response, we developed a new user-friendly interface — GoDigital — that functioned similarly to popular consumer digital interfaces.
20% increase in mobile utilization of online services.
GoDigital won a 2018 John Cotton Dana Public Relations Award and the 2018 John Iliff Award.
In 2023, I.F. and the D.C. Public Library engaged on a redesign to propel the data-driven, user-centered approach of GoDigital into their entire website. In addition to a fresh, accessible, and inviting design to match the library's updated brand, we built out a single search screen that allows users to search the site, the catalog, and events in one place.
